ITINERARY
Day 1:
The Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve was created on August 9, 1979. It is located in the departments of Arequipa and Moquegua and has an area of 366,936 hectares. The area includes several volcanoes such as Misti, Pichu Pichu, Chachani, Tacune and Ubinas, mountains and lagoons, including the Salinas lagoon.
Between 06:10 and 06:30 AM, passengers will be picked up from their hotels to go to the Salinas Lagoon, located at a distance of 120 km from the city of Arequipa and approximately 4 hours away. Salinas Lagoon is a high Andean salt lake that receives the waters of an endorheic basin, located between snow-capped mountains and volcanoes. Open peatlands known as bofedales surround the lagoon, being an important plant formation for the grazing of native camelids such as vicuñas and llamas, as well as habitat for the endemic fish Orestias Agassizii. The Chilean flamingo Phoenicopterus Chilensis, the lesser flamingo Phoenicoparrus Jamesi, and the endangered greater flamingo Phoenicoparrus Andinus are abundant in the wetland, reaching 20,000 individuals during the rainy season. The sandpiper Calidris also winters in large numbers. With an area of 17,657 ha. The Salinas Lagoon is a very important representative sample of a salt flat in the south of Peru and in addition to maintaining important bird populations, it provides natural resources necessary for the development of several economically important activities. We visit the mini volcano of Lojen (4500 meters above sea level) and the natural pools (20 degrees). During the low water season from October to December, we optionally visit the Moche salt flats, where we can take spectacular photos and see the production of salt. 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. arrival at the historic center.
