  ITINERARY

Day 1:

CUSCO – SANTA MARIA: 53 KILOMETER CYCLING AND RAFTING (OPTIONAL CANOEING: S/.100 SOLES)

The start of this tour begins with a pick up from your hotel, you will have a bus ride of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes through the spectacular Chinchero plateau and through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. You will stop at a small local restaurant where you can refresh yourself, get a quick meal or a snack, and buy anything you may have forgotten to buy in Cusco, after that you will have to get back on the bus and travel for an hour and a half to Abra Malaga, which is located at 4,350 meters above sea level. You will be provided with all the equipment you need (bike, gloves, elbow pads, knee pads and helmet), followed by a briefing by the experienced guide. Then you will begin a fun ride, all the way downhill to Santa Maria. Along the way you will see different landscapes, panoramic views and different microclimates. You will arrive at the town of Santa Maria for lunch. After lunch, you will have the afternoon free to rest or explore the town. It is optional to choose to participate in the canoeing excursion (100 soles). This will take you to the Quillabamba River for approximately 2 hours (25 km) including class 2 and class 3 rapids. Later we will take a bus to Santa Teresa where you can visit the Cocalmayo hot springs, to visit this place you will have to pay a bus fare of 10 soles per person round trip and the entrance ticket to this place. In the evening we will have dinner and spend the first night.

Day 2:

SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES

You will start at 6:00 am with an energetic breakfast. After this you will go to the Zipline camp so you can enjoy this activity for approximately 3 hours over the forest. There are 5 different cables, the goal of one is to learn how to control yourself on the Cable, as fast as you want, and then you will become an expert to be able to do Superman, upside down, you can also enjoy Hammocks.

You will be in an even more tropical climate as you get closer to the ancient city. You will take a short drive from Santa Teresa to Hidroeléctrica, where you will have lunch and then we will walk 3 hours along the train tracks until we reach Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu town, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3:

AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

In the morning you will have two options to climb Machu Picchu; take a hike of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes or take the bus for approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive, the guide will take you and inform you for 2 hours around the Machu Picchu Citadel, enriching your knowledge with Inca history. There is a lot of information that our guide will teach you.

After the guide, you will have free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you want to climb Huayna Picchu, a very popular climb with spectacular views, we recommend booking three months in advance. (There is only a daily limit of 400 visitors per day, if you don't want to miss the opportunity it has an extra cost of $60 USD) The round trip walk to the top of Huayna Picchu is approximately 3 hours. It is definitely worth it, for the impressive views from the top! Another alternative is to climb Machu Picchu Mountain. This is a new option that allows you to see the Citadel from the highest peak. It is less crowded, so you don't have to book in advance. (It has an extra cost of $60 USD).

We offer you two options to return to Cusco after visiting Machu Picchu.

TRAIN OPTION:

You can visit Machu Picchu for a longer time and have enough time if you plan to do the trek to HUAYNAPICCHU or MACHU PICCHU MOUNTAIN, which require a minimum of approximately 3 hours. After visiting the Machu Picchu area for 6 hours, you must return to the town of Aguas Calientes to take a train at 14:55 or 18:20 hours to Ollantaytambo for 1.5 hours and then by car to Cusco for 2 more hours to reach Cusco.

CAR OPTION:

You arrive at Machu Picchu around 6:00 am for the guided tour for 2.5 hours and then you have free time to explore the site on your own. If you take this option and are thinking about doing HUAYNAPICCHU MOUNTAIN or MACHU PICCHU it is possible but it will be too tight and rushed because you have to leave Machu Picchu at 11:30am to walk back to Hidroeléctrica for 3 hours to be in Hidroeléctrica at 2:30pm to take a car for 6 hours back to Cusco. If you are considering doing this option and doing one of the mountains we recommend you to stay one more night in Aguas Calientes and return the next day to Cusco by car.
